Congratulations and welcome to the XUMM family.
Here are some frequently asked questions and answers to get you started.
As always, please feel free to contact XUMM Support with all of your XUMM-related questions!
I'm old school, where is the manual?
There is currently no manual for Tangem cards. Many questions are answered in the Tangem FAQ.
... and, of course, you can always contact XUMM Support with any questions or thoughts
I'm all about security, how do I create a backup?
By purchasing a XUMM branded Tangem card, you have already demonstrated your commitment to security.
However, to bring you to the next level of security, we recommend backing up a Tangem card with another Tangem card.
While card-card backups are recommended, it is certainly possible to back up a card with any other XRP account. Make sure that you ONLY follow STEP 1 AND 2 (skip 3 and 4) from this FAQ:
I have two phones, can a Tangem card be used on another phone with XUMM?
Tangem cards are just XRP accounts in the end. All XRP accounts are completely independent from your phone. See this article for more on that.
You can switch between accounts using XUMM.
I love technical stuff, where can I find out about some of the more technical details about the Tangem card?
Here is a link with additional technical information.
As always, if you have a specific question not covered in the article, the XUMM support team is ready to help.
I'm used to managing my secret numbers, can I extract the secret/private key from my Tangem card?
The secret/private key is stored safely inside the chip in the Tangem card. It cannot be exported. It can not be extracted.
The main function of a Tangem card is securely creating and storing private keys and signing transactions.
I already have my own address on the XRP ledger. I want to import it to my new Tangem card.
Each XUMM branded Tangem card arrives with its own r-address. They do not have the ability to import new addresses, new private keys or new secret numbers. You can however configure your Tangem card as an extra key for your existing account. This way, you authorize your Tangem card to sign for your existing r-address (XRP Ledger account). For more information, see the first two steps of this article: How to add a regular key / rekey your XRP account
It looks like a credit card, it feels like a credit card, so I can use it at an ATM or a retail payment terminal...right?
Although the cards feature a bank grade security chip, current ATM's and retail payment terminals will not recognize a XUMM branded Tangem card.
What? I can't use it at my bank? What good is this thing?
Your XUMM branded Tangem card comes with it's own r-address on the XRP ledger. It stores the Master keys for your r-address on a secure chip inside the card. That is all it does. It does not store crypto currency. It does not contain assets on the XRP ledger. It can not send or receive funds.
In order for the card to be useful, you need two things:
- a safe and secure way to access the XRP ledger
- a NFC enabled cellular phone
XUMM, installed on a NCF-enabled phone, allows you to safely and securely use all of the features on the XRP ledger.
XUMM's flexibility, ease of use and security, combined with Tangem's NFC card make the perfect combination.
Does this work on my iPhone?
The XUMM branded Tangem card is compatible with iphone models 7 and above with iOS 13 or iOS 14.
If you have an older version of iOS, such as iOS 12 and below, your functionality will be reduced to read only. This means that you will be able to check the validity of the Card and display the contents of the r-address on the XRP ledger. You will not be able to transfer funds.
This is a limitation of iOS 12, not the Card or of XUMM.
I want to load other crypto currencies on my card. How do I do that?
Tangem cards purchased through XUMM transact in XRP and assets issued on the XRP Ledger.
