Wallets don't hold cryptocurrency. They only show the information for that account/address on the XRP Ledger, manage credentials and create and send transactions. This is explained in more detail in this article.
Accounts can be moved to/from the various wallet apps.
It is a good idea to know how to do this in case something happens to the app you are using.
It is also an excellent test of the backup data and procedure for restoring it.
This is how to import an existing XRP Ledger account using the account secret (family seed (s....), mnemonic (words) or 'Secret Numbers').
Either go to the "Switch account" menu (upper right corner of the home screen):
... or go to Settings (gear icon in the lower-right corner) > Accounts and tap the " + " sign in the upper-right corner.
Now click the Import existing account button:
Select "Full access" as we're going to import a secret, allowing you to sign & send transactions.
In the next screen, select the secret key type:
- Secret numbers
- Select this option if you have 8 groups of 6 digits. This is the default secret type for accounts generated by XUMM.
- Family Seed
- This is the most common secret type for other XRP Ledger specific apps/clients. It's a string starting with a lower case 's', like: ssLXTbVrN...
- Mnemonic
- This format is most commonly used by hardware wallets, and usually contains 12 of 24 words
After you enter your account secret correctly, XUMM will show you the r-address matching the secret.
If you get a different r-address from what you are expecting, please repeat the procedure and check your secret carefully.
If you repeatedly get the wrong account, you may have made a mistake while importing the account. Please submit a support ticket so we can assist.
